Winter Service

Sails are a major investment in an essential system on your boat. Proper care of them in the off-season can keep that investment working for you for years to come. We offer winter service for sails and canvass at $3.50 per pound which includes the following:

• Washing: The most important step in keeping your sails looking good is getting the salt off of them every year. That salt attracts moisture to it like a sponge, and removing it can keep mildew from growing in the off-season. We hand wash all sails, and can offer deeper clean or mildew soak for sails and canvass that need it.

• Inspection: Every inch of your sail and canvass is inspected for loose stitching and hardware, weak cloth and chafe. Needed repairs are noted, and if major work is needed we’ll give you a call to discuss it. Each sail is evaluated on a five point scale, so that you can keep track of the condition of your sails over the years and anticipate when it will be time to replace them.

• Repair: Repairs are done at our shop labor rate of $80/hr, plus the cost of materials. We will automatically take care of small repairs, but if it will be over an hour of work we’ll call to discuss it with you. A stitch in time saves nine, so we believe in making quality repairs that can keep you up and running all next season, and the season after that.

• Storage: Keeping your sail dry, away from critters, and in a temperature controlled environment is essential to protect your investment. Storage at the loft is free for the season if your winter service bill is paid within 30 days. So you won’t have to worry about them once the boat is out of the water, and you’ll be ready to go on launch day.
