New Sails

Handmade, Computer Designed

We know there are a range of sailmakers you can choose from. There are online budget sailmakers with attractive prices. There are marquee international sailmakers who charge a premium for their patch to be on your sail.

We aim to do something that these sailmakers can’t: be your community sailmaker. From ensuring that measurements are done right, to coming sailing with you to get the most out of your new sail, we are here to be your partner and make sure you have a quality sail done right.

Our sails are computer designed and cut for the most efficient aerodynamic shape, and built right here in Belfast. And we are proud to offer fabrics from dimension-polyant, the sailcloth manufacturer with the most consistent quality and stable, durable finishes.

Attention to Detail

The aerodynamic shape of the sail and the quality of the fabric are just the foundation of a quality of sail. Attention to the details, like robust and functional batten pockets, chafe prevention, and proper UV sun protection, can keep your sail consistently performing for years.

But attention to detail isn’t just about stitches and grommets or the dimensions of the rig, it’s also about relationship.

When you order a new sail from Belfast Bay Sailmakers, we want to have a long conversation about how you use the boat, what type of sailing you do, where you plan to go and what has worked well and been a challenge on sails that you’ve had in the past. And we may want to come out and measure your boat in person.

And when your new sail is done, we are here to help bend it on and go sailing with you to make sure everything is perfect.
